God Hears and Is Near When Your Heart Is Heavy – 9/14/23

He’s the sort of God who finds us there on the raw edge of all that splinters and dead-weights; the sort of God who sits with us in our pain. And though our bodies are frail and hearts are busted, His promises never waver, never break.

I Never Thought I Would Be That Neighbor – 1/2/20

The baby steps begin to snowball, and then there are impromptu gatherings in the driveway, kids running back and forth to each other’s houses, connections formed through helping each other with projects, missing ingredients and tools readily shared, and a neighborhood-focused missional community many can walk to when we gather.

Enneaneighboring: Forming Community in My Neighborhood Out of Different Types of Normal – 10/29/19

Aren’t we all just nine diverse kinds of normal, if we look at our neighborhood through the lens of the Enneagram, and as such an array of nine unique aspects of God’s image? Instead of letting our differences disconnect us like scattered pieces of a puzzle, might we see beauty in the puzzle we form when we are together? Enneagram lovers and those curious but largely unfamiliar with this personality typing tool alike—let’s dream of what could be together.

Angry Words Don’t Erase God’s Truth: He’s Here to Stay – 1/2/22

Another vulnerable story that shares a parenting struggle that’s ebbed and flowed, but impacted many of our days. Perhaps you can relate. And perhaps, like me, you need to remember “though all havoc may unleash and fling your foundation upside down, the closer we are to the Lord of peace, the less the things that feel out of control can control us.”

Bad Days Don’t Have To Get the Best of Us – 12/8/21

I’m working on a book proposal about vulnerability paving the way to authenticity, and authenticity fostering deep relationships. And today it’s time to share a vulnerable story of my own. This is a piece from the middle of a story I don’t know yet how it will end. I’m grateful for the opportunity to encourage others in the middle of a drama saga with their own children as we walk through ours.

The Power of Open Hearted Living – 5/10/20

A word for the year can be a like a dare—a weighted invitation to surrender and grow. When I chose the word open as last year’s word of the year it was a solemn acceptance that I wasn’t going to stay safely within the confines of my comfort zone. I was going to grow, and that meant it wasn’t always going to be easy. Or comfortable.

Ep. 38 – Won’t You Be My Neighbor – 3/12/20

Sharing the message of God’s relentless love is never more important than the one He pursues—people are infinitely valued by God and so too should be by us, the ones who represent Him in a million everyday ways in our neighborhoods. This model of friendship evangelism was on my mind a few weeks back when I talked with veteran Christian radio talk show host Mark Gilman and Pastor Dave Gerber on their radio/podcast Faithbusters.

One of the questions we unpacked is how and when we use words to share our faith with our neighbors. It’s not a new question, nor I am the first to answer it—but so many of us have likely wrestled with it at some point, and I am honored to join the conversation.
